Coupling Boltzmann and Navier-Stokes Equations by Friction

چکیده

The aim of this paper is to introduce and validate a coupled Navier-Stokes Boltzmann approach for the calculation of hypersonic rareeed ows around manoeuver-ing vehicles. The proposed strategy uses locally a kinetic model in the boundary layer coupled through wall friction forces to a global Navier-Stokes solver. Diierent numerical experiments illustrate the potentialities of the method. Couplage des Equations de Boltzmann et de Navier-Stokes par frottement. R esum e : Le but de ce rapport est d'introduire et valider une technique de couplage des Equations de Navier-Stokes avec les Equations de Boltzmann aan de calculer les ecoule-ments hypersoniques autour d'engins manoeuvrant a haute altitude. Problem with the Derivation of the Navier-Stokes Equation by Means of Zwanzig-Mori Projection Technique of Statistical Mechanics

The derivation of the Navier-Stokes equation starting from the Liouville equation using projection techniques yields a friction term which is nonlinear in the velocity. Using the results of multilinear mode-coupling technique for calculating equlibrium correlation functions, it is shown that the secondorder part of the term is non-zero, thus leading to an incorrect formula for the equation.
